August Highlights

August came and went and now it’s September and people are talking about the end of summer and pumpkin things are popping up everywhere and I’mnotreadyforfreezingcoldweatheryet!

I mean, I’m ready for fall. I’m ready to give my sweat glands a break, but it’s what comes after fall that I’m sooo dreading…

Though the month of August felt like a total of 72 hours, it sure was a blast. Here are some highlights!

One gorgeous Saturday afternoon, I found myself on a yacht in Annapolis, MD with the guy I’m seeing and a few of his friends. This was my first time visiting Annapolis and I was instantly smitten. So many beautiful boats everywhere you look.

After a relaxing cruise down the Chesapeake Bay, we went into town for dinner at Boatyard Bar & Grill. I hydrated with a grapefruit cocktail made with fresh squeezed grapefruit juice, triple sec, & Absolut vodka. Yum, make that 2!

We were famished and dove headfirst into the Crab and Artichoke Dip. ‘Twas devoured in mere seconds.

I ordered the Blackened Tuna Salad. The tuna was dredged in cajun spices and seared (it was still rare inside…just how I like it). Served with wasabi peas (fun salad addition!), tomatoes and toasted almonds.

Afterwards, we went to Pussers Carribean Grille where I tried their famous drink, the Painkiller. There was boat parking, so we got to sit on the boat by the bar and avoid the crowds…AND people watch!

This drink was made with rum, coconut cream, pineapple juice, orange juice and garnished with freshly grated nutmeg. Delicious!

Of course I was a total paparazzi when it came to the Navy men strolling the streets! Something about that uniform I’m tellin’ ya…

At the end of the month, the family I used to nanny needed someone at the last minute to fill in for the week before school started. One of my duties included watching the kids at the resort pool by my house!

Mid-August, I ran the Leesburg 20K with my friend Maria! Maria and I played in our high school band together and reconnected last year via the blogworld. She was actually the one who transferred her Marine Corps Marathon bib to me last year when she decided she didn’t want to run the race.

After talks of running together for well over a year, we FINALLY did so in a race. I decided I didn’t want to actually race the race but rather chat with her and catch up on life instead.

It was a fun, scenic, and chatty 12.4 miles. I ran an extra 0.7 miles at the end to make it a full half marathon. I’m a numbers person and stopping at 12.4 just seemed silly. I ran right through the finish line, grabbed my medal and just kept on running…

…Forrest Gump style!

This action shot was taken by her [brand spankin' new] husband who should be a race photographer because I don’t know how he got this photo to be unblurry! Errrrr maybe we just weren’t running fast enough? Ha!

Only the cool kids wear pink socks.

So this happened on September 1st  (not in August), but I’m gonna include it anyway because it was the best day ever. I FINALLY reunited with my bestest blog reader turned bestest real life friend Lauren! And I finally met her boyfriend, too.

We met up a few times when we were both in Charlottesville and have been texting all day every day ever since (I text her more than anyone else I know). Even though we hadn’t seen each other in over 2 years, it was like no time had passed. I’m campaigning for her to move here.

We went to La Sandia in Tyson’s Corner (owned by the same people as Fuego (that Mexican restaurant I’m infatuated with)). The photos I took of dinner were blurry (I guess I was too excited). Of course the drinks were photogenic though.

Watermelon margarita and a coconut mojito. Yep, that’s a coconut rim, y’all!

The day before, I went out to Mad Fox in Falls Church, VA for happy hour and dinner. Two appetizers worth mentioning….

1) Fried lamb/beef curry balls 2) Fried pickles!! (not photographed)

FALL CANDY HAS ARRIVED! I still think it’s too early for Halloween stuff to be out, but I’m welcoming fall candy with open arms mouths.

I have yet to try any of these below, but I did pick up a bag of pumpkin spice M&Ms! I must admit, they didn’t live up to my expectations (don’t get me wrong, I’m still enjoying them). I think perhaps they’d be better with a white chocolate base (like the pumpkin Hershey Kisses) rather than a milk chocolate base. I definitely prefer the candy corn M&Ms.

Anyway, time for a random Instagram photo. I found this pile of grass/dirt on the sidewalk while walking one day. Do you see what I see?

Phew! This was a long post, but it sure feels good to catch up with you all. I hope you have the most fabulous weekend! Go outside. Eat something delicious. Do something adventurous!

Tell me: Any fun plans for the weekend? What’s your favorite fall candy?
