Summertime Eats

This summer is just fuh-lying by! From time to time, I find myself getting excited about all things fall…boots, cozy sweaters, colorful leaves, pumpkins, apple cider…aaaaand then I quickly snap out of it and remind myself to cherish the present moment because it won’t be long before teeth-chattering winter weather is back in full force.

Here are a few highlights from life lately…

As Kat Lobes’s maid of honor, I got to attend her wedding tasting a couple weeks ago.

The catering company served us the drinks, appetizers and main courses that Kat Lobes picked out from their menu. She officially has a venue and the date has been set for September 2014. Eeps!

I really really think we really need to go back for a wedding cake tasting. Yes.

I finally got to try Ford’s Fish Shack in Ashburn after hearing such good things about the place.

Our server brought us corn muffins to start. We ordered Buffalo Fish Wings, which were actual bone-in fishes flash-fried and made to look and taste like chicken wings. Cool, right?!

I ordered the Lobster Cobb salad, which came with a generous heaping mound of lobster meat, avocado, bacon, tomatoes, goat cheese (subbed for blue cheese) and a deviled egg with a sugary pecan on top!

My date ordered the Lobster Roll, which came with OMGsomuchlobstermeat. We were enamored by the corn on the cob, which was slathered in butter and grilled to perfection. We were especially intrigued by the way the husk was tied back to use as a handle. Has anyone done that before? What a genius idea.

And then I saw this in Men’s Health magazine…

I’m not a huge chip person, but I housed these two bags like there was no tomorrow. I got the mixed root bag from Homegoods and only because there was yucca/cassava in the bag! I loved the taro and sweet potatoes, too. All my faves. And oh my goodness those cheddar & horseradish chips from Trader Joe’s are in-cred-ible. If you haven’t tried them yet, you must!

I found this on clearance at TJ Maxx and you GUYS…it is the shiz. If vanilla frosting and almond butter had a child, this would be it! Super sweet and oh so delicious.

I also finally got to try Tuscarora Mill, a restaurant in downtown Leesburg.

I ordered a glass of rose wine and we shared an order of the mussels to start. Steamed in Flying Dog Pale Ale with smoked bacon and blue cheese.

I ordered the Seafood Salad and it was basically everything I love on one plate. Shrimp, lump crab, seared tuna, avocado, and mango.

My date ordered the Seared Jumbo Sea Scallops with serrano ham, arugula and the most delicious tomato-basil risotto.

One night, we made pina colada sorbet with coconut milk, fresh pineapple, a splash of dark rum and sugar. Mmmm!

I’ve got much more to show + tell you all, but I’ve gotta wrap this up and head to work. I hope you’ve been enjoying your summer!

Tell me…the highlight of your summer thus far. What’s the best thing you’ve eaten lately?!
