We had a low-key, low-stress Mother’s Day over here (I know, I’m wayyyy late on this recap). Lo the Bro brought brunch over and we chit-chatted about life while watching golf on TV.
Lo the Bro brought over flowers (sold in a mason jar!), a homemade leek and mushroom quiche (made with manchego cheese and coconut milk), fresh fruit, GF blueberry muffins, and goat cheese w/ a marcona almond crust!
My mom also made a Moroccan chicken tagine dish. I was too busy enjoying the dish that I forgot to photograph it…next time. I triple dog guarantee you there will be a next time.
I also shared these Setton Farms Pistachio Chewy Bites that I was sent by the company to try. She especially loved the monster pistachios, one of her favorite nuts!
Dining Out
Kat Lobes finished her 2nd year of law school (1 more to go!). To celebrate, we went to Gordon Biersch for dinner. We talked about all our friends who are engaged, getting engaged or about to get engaged.
While perusing the menu, their Seafood Cobb salad jumped right out at me! Shrimp and lump crab meat? Yes, please.
Last Sunday, Mari, my bestest friend from when I studied abroad in London was in town. We only get to see each other every couple of years. She ran the Boston Marathon in 2012, so you can imagine we had lots to catch up on!
We went to Peacock Cafe in Georgetown for brunch. I had a $15 for $50 coupon to use. It turned out to be a beautiful day and we were able to snag a table outside.
Crab meat eggs benedict // Salad with smoked salmon, walnuts and goat cheese // Fresh-squeezed strawberry, grapefruit, and ginger juice
Delicious!
Recent Snacks
These dried persimmon slices are soft ‘n’ chewy. I was hoping the persimmon flavor would be stronger though.
Trader Joe’s Blueberry Raspberry Oat Bran muffins, which I hadn’t gotten in awhile. Check out those MONSTROUS muffin tops! They were thoroughly enjoyed with equally large scoops of sunflower seed butter.
I’ve been in love with all things pork lately. Baby back ribs, pulled pork and honey HAM! Several years ago I decided I didn’t like ham, so I stopped eating it cold turkey (see what I did there? ham..turkey…ha!). I preferred other forms of deli meat like turkey and roast beef.
Well, these days I cannot get enough of ham!
I made a Monte Cristo sandwich of sorts the other day. I started with cinnamon raisin bread and stuffed it with muenster cheese and honey ham. Then I dunked the whole thing in a beaten egg and pan fried it. Like a sweet ‘n’ savory French toast sandwich. You gotta try it…to die for!
Alrighty, that’s it for now. Catch ya later!
Tell me: What good eats have you been enjoying lately?
